Альбом «Чайковский» был задуман пару лет назад. После выхода в свет диска The Mighty Five (музыка композиторов «Могучей кучки»), который имел определённый успех и даже занял второе место в номинации «Лучших альбомов года» по версии AP Reviews, мы с Яаком, Танелом, Михкелем и Николаем Богайчуком начали думать над следующим проектом. Практически сразу решили реализовать программу с музыкой Петра Ильича, тем более, Чайковского много связывало с Эстонией - это и его издатель Пётр Юргенсон, и Хаапсалу, где Пётр Ильич провел лето 1867 года. В последствии, нам удалось сфотографироваться на известной Tchaikovsky’s Bench в Хаапсалу, будучи на фестивале, носящем имя композитора в этом замечательном эстонском городе. На скамейке изображена старинная эстонская народная мелодия, которая звучит в Шестой симфонии Чайковского. 

 

При подготовке с записи нам пришлось отказаться от многих замечательных композиций, так как хотелось бы не выходить за пределы 50-60 минут. Тут нет ни «Баркаролы» , ни «На Тройке» из цикла «Времена года», которые мы иногда исполняем на концертах. Мы старались сохранить авторский мелодизм с его плавностью, но при этом приблизить материал к нашему стилю. В альбоме звучат композиции, в которых мы отталкивались от оригинальных гармоний, полностью сохранив нотный материал, так и пьесы, аранжированные более вольно, с измененными размерами, гармониями, с частями, исполняемыми иногда «по мотивам». Причём оба принципа порой взаимодействуют друг с другом в рамках одной композиции. 

Мы очень рады, что наш новый альбом, столь важный для всех нас, выходит в год 180-летнего юбилея Петра Ильича Чайковского, продолжая нашу линию исполнения музыки академических композиторов. Выпуск проекта стал возможен благодаря поддержке меценатов Игоря Флейшмана, Андрей Попова, Дениса Финдайзена. The idea of the album «Tchaikovsky» was born a couple of years ago.  After the release of the disc «The Mighty Five», which was a success and even took second place in the AP Reviews nomination for «Best Albums of the Year», Jaak, Tanel, Mikhel, Nikolay Bogaychuk and I began to think about the next project.  Almost immediately they decided to implement the program with the music of Pyotr Ilyich, especially since Tchaikovsky had a lot of connections with Estonia - for example his publisher Pyotr Yurgenson was Estonian, and also there is the city of Haapsalu, where Pyotr Ilyich spent the summer of 1867. Later, we managed to take pictures at the famous Tchaikovsky’s Bench in Haapsalu, being at the festival named after the composer. One of the benches depicts an old Estonian folk melody that sounds in the Sixth Tchaikovsky Symphony.

 

In preparation for the recording, we had to abandon many wonderful compositions, as we would like not to go beyond 50-60 minutes limit. There is neither «Barcarolles» nor «Troika» from «The Seasons», which we sometimes perform at concerts.  We tried to preserve the author’s melody with its smoothness, but at the same time bring the material closer to our style. The album contains compositions based on the original harmonies, with musical material completely  preserved, as well as plays arranged more freely, with different bars, harmonies, with parts sometimes performed “based on motives”.  Moreover, both principles sometimes interact with each other within the same composition. We are very pleased that our new album, so important for all of us, comes out in the year of the 180th anniversary of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, continuing our line of performance of music by academic composers.  The release of the project was made possible thanks to the support of sponsors Igor Fleishman, Andrei Popov, Denis Findeisen.  We sincerely thank our patron friends, as well as the Estonian Embassy in Moscow, ArtBeat Music, Anna Erm and many of our friends who support us!
